Abstract

La mobilisation de ce « concept » de marché demeure flou chez les économistes. Dans une première partie, assurément trop brève, nous exposerons à grands traits quelques figures du marché dans la théorie économique afin de montrer, dans une deuxième partie, comment cette théorie économique peut s'enrichir de considérations plus sociologiques permettant d'intégrer la dimension institutionnelle des phénomènes d'échanges. La troisième et dernière partie, par quelques exemples, expose l'utilité de l'histoire de la pensée économique pour nos considérations d'histoire des faits économiques. Notre problématique est de comprendre comment s'institutionnalisent les processus de marché qui ne sont aucunement des entités émergeant spontanément d'un déterminisme économique. En effet, l'existence de déterminations économiques est un fait bien réel qui ne peut toutefois occulter la part souvent décisive du rôle de l'imaginaire social et du politique. L'histoire économique nous permet ainsi de comprendre en quoi l'économie est politiquement et socialement constituée.
