Abstract

L'ouvrage qui vaut à Polanyi une renommée mondiale (La Grande Transformation paru en 1944) ne fut traduit en français qu'en 1983, signe (et cause aussi) d'une trop longue négligence pour un auteur désormais reconnu pour son apport incontestable aux sciences humaines et sociales. Juste retour du balancier, ce relatif oubli a laissé la place à une attention croissante. Ce regain d'intérêt est d'autant plus fondé que la pensée de Polanyi est d'une étonnante actualité. Il est en effet le penseur par excellence de la « société de marché » et de la crise à laquelle s'expose une société où la logique de l'économie marchande en vient à dominer toutes les sphères de l'activité humaine. Actuel, Polanyi l'est encore par sa conception d'un socialisme radicalement démocratique censé accomplir l'idéal moderne de liberté, par le poids qu'il accorde à la culture et aux institutions dans l'analyse des systèmes économiques, par sa méthode pluridisciplinaire et par tant d'autre traits qui en font une référence aujourd'hui incontournable dans toutes les sciences sociales. Ces textes (pour la plupart inédits en français) offrent un panorama de la pensée de Polanyi. On y trouvera bien sûr des clefs pour accéder au c'ur de la grille d'analyse proposée dans La Grande Transformation, mais aussi un outil rassemblant l'essentiel des contributions de Polanyi à l'anthropologie économique, à l'étude comparée des systèmes économiques, à la philosophie politique, à l'analyse des systèmes et des idéologies qui s'affrontèrent au XXe siècle (socialisme, communisme, fascisme, nazisme)." --4e de couv.
