La question de la monnaie en Egypte ancienne

Abstract

La vision classique de la monnaie a pour corrélat l'idée de sa neutralité, ce qui suppose l'autonomie de la sphère économique, laquelle pose problème pour la Haute-Antiquité. Ce moment de l'histoire, en effet, se caractérise par l'indivision du religieux, du politique et de l'économique. Nous adoptons ici l'hypothèse selon laquelle, durant cette période, l'ordre politique, intimement lié au religieux, institue l'économique. Ainsi est-t-on à même de comprendre comment les pratiques monétaires en Egypte ancienne témoignent de cette institution de l'économique. Instruments privilégiés du contrôle étatique, les pratiques monétaires sont au service de l'intégration sociale ; la reconnaissance du caractère social de certaines catégories mentales, souvent jugées naturelles, est une conséquence de ce détour par l'anthropologie substantive
