Les choix d'orientation et de formation à l'épreuve de l'emploi

Abstract

De quelle façon les choix de formation résistent-ils au temps et à l'épreuve d'une confrontation avec la réalité du marché du travail ? Six ans après avoir fait des choix d'orientation et achevé un parcours scolaire, les jeunes interrogés (aujourd'hui adultes actifs ou à la recherche d'un emploi) sont invités à se retourner sur leur passé. Quel bilan tirent-ils des diverses étapes franchies dans le système scolaire et quel jugement portent-ils sur l'utilité des formations suivies, au regard de leur parcours d'insertion ? De quelle façon jugent-ils rétrospectivement leur parcours professionnel et leur positionnement dans le monde du travail ? Quelles sont leurs satisfactions ou leurs regrets par rapport à leurs choix éducatifs initiaux et quel avenir peuvent-ils envisager ? Une enquête par entretiens individuels réalisée en 2007 auprès de plus de soixante jeunes ayant quitté l'école en 2001 aborde ces diverses questions. Les résultats qui en découlent sont riches d'enseignements sur les représentations qui prédominent, six ans après la fin des études, sur le bien-fondé des décisions d'orientation et des choix de formation, à la lumière d'un processus d'insertion dans l'emploi et d'un parcours professionnel déjà bien entamé.
