Abstract

Dans les pays riches, la mondialisation, et plus particulièrement la concurrence des pays à bas salaires, sont régulièrement désignées comme responsables de la dégradation – sous la forme d'inégalités salariales ou de chômage – de l'emploi des travailleurs les moins qualifiés. Au-delà des clichés d'une Chine raflant toutes les parts de marché et de la grande entreprise délocalisant ses unités de production en Asie du Sud-Est, quel est l'impact réel du commerce international et de la division verticale des processus de production sur les travailleurs non qualifiés du Nord ? Thierry Madiès montre que si la théorie néo-classique du commerce international prévoit bien un accroissement des inégalités dans les pays riches, les études empiriques aboutissent à des conclusions beaucoup moins tranchées. De même, les évaluations de l'effet des délocalisations mettent pour l'instant en évidence un impact limité sur l'emploi. Les problèmes statistiques et les difficultés à appréhender le phénomène des délocalisations conduisent toutefois à interpréter ces résultats avec prudence.
