Abstract

Le développement urbain et la dynamique économique et sociale d'une ville sont non seulement conditionnés par la mobilité des personnes mais aussi dans une grande mesure par la mobilité des biens.En effet, de multiples flux physiques sont échangés entre les établissements économiques, quels qu'ils soient mais aussi entre les établissements commerciaux et les particuliers (par l'intermédiaire du commerce sous toutes ses formes). Il convient d'y ajouter les transports de matériaux de tous ordres servant à la construction et au fonctionnement de la ville, ainsi que l'élimination des déchets qu'elle produit.Cette activité n'est encore que peu ou mal prise en compte dans les projets d'aménagement. Cependant, constitue-t-elle un facteur déterminant de l'évolution des activités et des formes urbaines ?A la lumière d'un rapide état des lieux, nous présenterons dans ce papier une revue des principaux facteurs d'évolution récente du transport de marchandises en ville (TMV). Nous tenterons ensuite de mettre en évidence, d'une part ceux qui nous semblent susceptibles de s'amortir dans le temps et d'autre part les transformations plus profondes qui sont en cours dans ce secteur susceptibles d'être des déterminants de changement pour les prochaines décennies.
