Abstract

Are our systems of transport built on a continuous increase of motorized mobility "sustainable"? The communication proposes a conceptual approach to give a transport system sustainability measurement. The concept of sustainability is approached with a evaluative and multidimensional step. After having specified the theoretical framework of sustainable mobility selected, the system of urban mobility is described through the concepts of needs, costs and services. A comparison of the residents behaviours mobility from Bordeaux, Grenoble, Lyon and Paris must clarify the interdependences and contradictions included in sustainable mobility concept.
