Abstract

Cet article définit le territoire moderne comme un espace de constitution d'un patrimoine de ressources publiques. Son fractionnement en un ordre politique et un ordre économique se construit sur cette base. Une partie seulement des activités se déroulant dans cet espace en se nourissant de ce patrimoine se retrouve dans ces ordres et il n'y a aucune nécessité que ces derniers soient conjointement présents à quelque niveau spatial que ce soit. Le concept de patrimoine permet d'articuler la proximité géographique et la proximité sociale qui est nécessaire à la coordination des acteurs. La proximité géographique est à l'origine du patrimoine territorial, tandis que la proximité sociale tient à l'accès des acteurs à ce patrimoine qui est commun.
