Abstract

Globalisation of the economy highlights the growing problems inherent of cultural diversity and its values underlying, relevant variables that should be taken into account in the design and implementation of managerial and strategic decisions coherent with company policy. The bond between management and culture is particularly proven and crucial in East Asia. If many authors during the last two decades considered Confucian ethics as playing the same role in East Asia, as the one played by the Protestants in the development in the West, this paper shows that Confucianism is used here for policies ends, in particular, in order to revive Chinese nationalism and to eliminate the moral crisis accompanying modernisation. However, it is not completely unfounded to state that Confucianism contains fundamental orientations and principles which continue to exert a durable influence on managerial practices within the company, on the other hand strategic practices are very clearly influenced by Taoist culture.
