Abstract

In ERP projects, implementation (or go-live) is often viewed as the final stage. However, critical adjustments continue to emerge after the system goes live. This article examines the post-implementation phase as a central stage in the ERP lifecycle, particularly in complex organizational and international contexts. It draws on twelve semi-structured interviews with stakeholders involved in international ERP projects. The findings highlight the persistence of requirements engineering activities after implementation, marked by unanticipated needs, tensions between global standardization and local adaptations, and the emergence of workaround practices. They also show that this phase reveals limitations in upstream requirements engineering. The analysis underscores the key role of post-implementation governance in system appropriation and value creation. This study contributes to ERP post-adoption literature by framing post-implementation as a critical phase where needs, requirements, uses, and governance are reconfigured.
