Les disparités de salaires. Présentation théorique

Abstract

L'étude des disparités de salaires et le test de l'hypothèse de la formation du prix du travail sur un marché de concurrence posent un même problème théorique : il s'agit de vérifier s'il existe un lien étroit entre le niveau des salaires et les caractéristiques des emplois occupés. Cette hypothèse peut être testée par deux méthodes. Une première méthode où l'on confronte directement le salaire payé et les caractéristiques des emplois. Une deuxième méthode où l'on recherche les relations entre le niveau des salaires et certaines variables d'entreprises, ou d'industries, indépendantes des caractéristiques individuelles des salariés. Les résultats obtenus par l'application de ces deux méthodes ne permettent pas de donner une réponse claire au problème posé. Cette lacune a des conséquences pour la cohérence de la théorie du salaire et les études appliquées dans le domaine de la dynamique des salaires.
