Abstract
The concept of proximity spans psychology, organisational behaviour, economic geography, yet remains under-explored in Higher Education (HE), particularly in management studies. This chapter examines how proximity (Boschma, 2005) can foster innovation through Value Proposition (VP) pedagogy, focusing on how VP teaching in HE can cultivate such relationships. It explores the use of various approaches to reduce physical distance, the importance of cognitive alignment for knowledge exchange, and social management strategies to prevent lock-in in team-based learning. This chapter is structured in three parts. First, it establishes a transdisciplinary foundation, bridging management studies and HE. Secondly, it examines organisational and pedagogical factors through the lens of proximity, focusing on VP integration and student outcomes. Thirdly, it synthesises four key insights, positioning proximity as a catalyst for ecosystemic innovation, entrepreneurial competencies and industry-relevant skills within the context of management education.
