Abstract

Facing increasing threats for live worldwide, business around the globe demonstrates a growing awareness for sustainability. Hence, not only sustainability, but also innovation and a firm's international strategy have been identified as key factors for future economic growth. However, research on all three elements is still in its beginnings. Our systematic literature review (SLR) captures the current state of the art of the interdependencies between sustainability, innovation, and a firm's international strategy. We found that qualitative research is limited, but highly relevant for future research to analyse the complexity in this domain. Based on the insights of our SLR, we propose a framework for firms to create an international innovation strategy for sustainability from a multilevel perspective. This framework reveals pitfalls in current research and depicts gaps that require further investigations that urgently need to be addressed to identify strategies that efficiently tackle down global threats.
