Abstract

Simulation serious games are useful tools for students to learn about and engage in new professional contexts. We present one such game that we developed and use with our students called ELITE The Serious Game. Alongside the games experiential learning and in-game explanations, collective discussion of the game experience brings further enlightenment. Technical aspects (single-player game with limited choices and a general lack of gamification) reduce the feelings of immersion and provide guidance for future development and use. Ultimately, based on our experiences, we share advice for creating such a game and using it within a university course setting.
