Abstract

Cet article explore la notion de travail pour la dette à partir d'une ethnographie des classes populaires brésiliennes après la récession de 2014-2015. Il montre que les retraité·es jouent le rôle de pourvoyeur·ses de crédits et de revenus à leurs proches dans la mesure où ce sont, souvent, les seul·es membres de la famille à disposer d'un revenu fixe. L'amplification des solidarités familiales conjuguées à l'intensification du travail pour la dette des femmes et des retraité·es permet à la fois aux banques de prospérer et aux familles de « tenir ». Ce faisant, l'ethnographie contribue aux approches féministes et matérialistes, en articulant une approche en termes de genre et de classe à une analyse des relations entre les générations.
