Abstract

En Nouvelle-Calédonie, un long débat s'est installé entre les partisans d'une intervention publique majoritaire dans le secteur du nickel (orientation défendue par les indépendantistes) et ceux qui préfèrent y encourager l'initiative privée (voie soutenue par les loyalistes). Il est proposé dans cet article d'analyser le positionnement plus particulier des indépendantistes (relativement à un avis plus standard des loyalistes), se positionnant comme porte-parole du peuple kanak, avec une grille de lecture de l'Economie Sociale et Solidaire (ESS). En effet, une caractéristique singulière de l'ESS est de représenter une tentative de participer au fonctionnement économique global sans en épouser les pratiques, l'esprit et les buts. Autour de l'usine du Nord, on se pose la question suivante : une autre voie économique est-elle possible ?
