Abstract

La libre concurrence est-elle vraiment un gage d'efficacité économique ? Pourquoi le chômage résiste-t-il à la flexibilisation du marché du travail? La puissance publique est-elle démunie face aux dysfonctionnements de l'économie ?... La théorie économique est divisée sur la question du fonctionnement des économies de marchés, mais l'aborder sous cet angle livre un panorama hétéroclite et confus de l'état des connaissances. Le livre présente les différentes conceptions en partant au contraire de leur socle commun (la représentation de l'économie comme un ensemble de marchés interdépendants) à partir duquel les discordances prennent tout leur sens. Les conditions sous lesquelles les forces de la concurrence pourraient opérer de manière efficace et celles pour lesquelles elles conduisent à des dysfonctionnements plus ou moins graves sont ainsi clairement identifiées.
