Abstract

Cet ouvrage propose au lecteur une réflexion sur une activité très réputée : la haute couture parisienne. Il montre comment cette activité s'est professionnalisée et institutionnalisée à travers plus d'un siècle d'existence. Il explique comment la haute couture parisienne a su se distinguer des industries de la mode situées hors de France. Ce livre s'intéresse aussi à des secteurs en lien avec la haute couture et, en particulier, au prêt-à-porter des couturiers et à la création de mode. Il consacre une large place à l'organisation professionnelle de ce secteur en y retraçant les évolutions des chambres syndicales et des fédérations qui ont vocation à rassembler les acteurs de cette profession. Enfin, il étudie quels sont les liens entre la haute couture parisienne et les villes, à l'aide de travaux académiques, mais aussi à travers des études de cas et des témoignages.
