La France en 1 916 bassins de vie

Abstract

Afin de mieux analyser la structuration de l'espace rural en France métropolitaine, une nouvelle nomenclature spatiale, le zonage en bassins de vie, a été établie. Le bassin de vie d'un bourg ou d'une petite ville est le plus petit territoire sur lequel les habitants ont accès à l'emploi et aux équipements courants. Une fois les 1 745 bassins de vie des bourgs et petites villes dessinés, se révèlent 171 territoires, dénommés par analogie « bassins de vie des grandes agglomérations ». Les bassins de vie sont des territoires structurés autour de leurs pôles qui contribuent eux-mêmes à la structuration hiérarchique du pays et constituent un outil pour l'aménagement du territoire.
