Festival-goers and soft mobility : Nudging to overcome the status quo[Le festivalier face à la mobilité douce : Lever les freins du statu quo par le nudging]

This article examines the factors influencing festival-goers' mobility, based on the 2024 edition of the Festival d'Avignon. More specifically, it analyzes the introduction of an alternative to the car via the deployment of a night train service in the same year, in comparison with train use outside the festival. Through an interdisciplinary approach combining behavioral economics, sociology of mobility and econometrics, it presents the levers and obstacles linked to the use of the train outside the festival, as well as the interest and knowledge of the night train. Based on a survey of 2 988 festival-goers, it highlights the impact of cognitive biases on the adoption of the train outside the festival, by comparing them with interest in and knowledge of the night train service. Among other things, the results highlight the key role of time flexibility and safety. In this sense, it proposes action levers for territorial policies based on nudging. The ultimate goal is to propose territorial strategies that promote gentler mobility by reducing carbon footprints and urban congestion during large-scale events.
