Abstract

Following a series of works on the concept of open innovation from the early 2000s, Chesbrough & Di Mininpublished a text in 2014 that establishes the concept of open social innovation (OSI). Our article offers a critical analysisof the use of the OSI concept to describe a supposedly singular form of social innovation (SI) process. The socialinnovation process is characterized, for many authors in SI, by cooperation with stakeholders and an intrinsically "open"process. Based on a systematic literature review, we question the added value of the OSI concept and open a researchpath on its articulation with academic research on the social innovation process.
