Abstract

Overtourism increasingly threatens mountain regions, damaging ecosystems and compromising residents' quality of life. This phenomenon concentrates visitors at a few overcrowded Points of Interest (POIs) while leaving other sites, referred to as lesser-known POIs, undervalued. To address this, our study proposes a dual-level framework structured across: a macro-level analysis of the broader territory, and a micro-level view of specific POIs. This enables the development of indicators (e.g., carrying capacity and lesser-known scores) aiming to balance the promotion of undervalued sites with the preservation of their sustainability. The integration of these metrics supports a more responsible redistribution of tourist flows, fostering a sustainable spatial distribution of visitors throughout the territory.
