Abstract

This text examines the growing importance of the Pacific region, which has established itself as a nerve center for global geopolitical and environmental issues. The author highlights the paradox of these territories whose maritime sovereignty is expanding through international law (notably via the extension of continental shelves), even as their terrestrial existence is threatened by rising sea levels. These transformations redefine the concept of territoriality, blending questions of natural resource control with fundamental human rights issues. The ambitions of major powers and the challenges of climate change are thus turning this region into a laboratory where universal challenges are played out. Finally, the work brings together multidisciplinary perspectives (including legal, historical, and anthropological) to analyze the complex governance and the uncertain future of these oceanic islands and nations.
