Abstract

This document analyzes the impact of financial transfers from mainland France to New Caledonia and the economic risks associated with potential monetary sovereignty. The author examines how a reduction in over-remunerations for civil servants and the end of tax incentives (défiscalisation) could weaken local consumption and the financing of social housing. The study also emphasizes that the fixed parity of the Pacific franc artificially supports the purchasing power of residents despite a significant trade deficit . According to simulations, exiting the franc zone would result in a drastic drop in the standard of living and major inflationary instability. In conclusion, the text advocates for maintaining current monetary ties to preserve the territory's macroeconomic stability.
