Abstract

This text analyzes the challenges of sustainable development in New Caledonia following the end of its major industrial cycle based on nickel. The author emphasizes the importance of diversifying the economy by leveraging natural and intangible heritage, while moving away from an excessive dependence on mining resources. The reflection focuses on long-term sustainability, suggesting that investment in human and social capital is essential to ensure wealth for future generations . Several avenues are explored to create a new model of progress, notably through sustainable agriculture, responsible tourism, and the social and solidarity economy. Finally, the article calls for better consistency in public policies and a shared vision to overcome the territory's structural and identity-related obstacles.
