Abstract

This text analyzes the macroeconomic structure of New Caledonia, highlighting a standard of living initially comparable to that of New Zealand. The local economy is primarily service-based, although the nickel industry remains a wealth driver subject to global market fluctuations. Historically, the territory has benefited from extensive growth fueled by massive investments in metallurgical infrastructure and significant financial transfers. However, the document notes a recent economic slowdown characterized by a drop in private investment and a slower pace of GDP growth. To ensure its sustainability, the archipelago must now focus on diversifying its resources and improving overall productivity. In conclusion, despite sound financial fundamentals, the Caledonian economic future will depend on its ability to renew its growth engines.
