Organizational adaptability of public hospitals. An analysis of the social practices of dynamic capabilities[L’adaptabilité organisationnelle de l’hôpital public. Une analyse des pratiques sociales des capacités dynamiques]

Organizational adaptation poses a considerable challenge for public hospitals, primarily due to their unique organizational and structural characteristics, as well as resource limitations. This study aims to explore the mechanisms that facilitate this adaptability by integrating the micro-foundations of dynamic capabilities with the strategy-as-practice approach. This integration enables a comprehensive understanding of behaviors directed at reconfiguring resources at the organizational level, in conjunction with the social practices that support these behaviors and activities. Guided by the research question: how does the examination of the social practices of dynamic capabilities enhance our understanding of organizational adaptability processes?, a case study was conducted in a French public hospital. The findings highlight behaviors focused on support, trust, and the recognition of others' knowledge and skills, which are embedded in social ties and discursive practices.
