Abstract

This special issue turns its focus to the technology dominating discussions for the past two years: artificial intelligence and its transformative impact on research activities. AI's rapid development now enables the acceleration, automation, and near-costless execution of a growing range of tasks—translation, transcription, document synthesis, and more. This evolution potentially reshapes the entire value chain of scientific production, from idea generation to article writing, including the peer-review process, raising significant ethical questions. This issue aims to provide an overview of several tools that can significantly facilitate or enrich research work. While some have already been featured in previous columns, this special issue offers a more comprehensive panorama of AI's growing role in research.
