Abstract

Quand une augmentation de la capacité routière facilite les déplacements, le trafic automobile s'accroit au-delà de ce que prévoient les modèles de trafic classiques. Ce trafic induit est en effet provoqué par cinq réactions des usagers des transports : non seulement un report temporel, un report spatial et un report modal, mais aussi une augmentation de la fréquence de déplacement et un changement des origines et destinations des déplacements que ces modèles ne parviennent pas à appréhender. Le trafic induit peut affecter le bilan environnemental d'un projet routier et le rendre à terme négatif. Il est pourtant souvent ignoré car difficile à prévoir avec précision.
