Abstract

Whereas in the past, the social function was performed solely by non-profit organizations and associations ; nowadays, more and more mainstream companies are putting a well-defined social objective at the heart of their business models. Socially responsible investment has the distinctive feature of addressing social, ethical and environmental concerns. Through a multiple case study, the link between social and financial performance of social enterprises is highlighted and more specifically for the case of Madagascar. The aim of this study is to provide some answers as to the specific approaches of socially responsible enterprises, to reduce the controversies associated with their hybridity. The results show that social performance has a positive impact on the financial profitability and long-term sustainability of social enterprises.
