The strategic value of institutional paradigms for achieving long term self-sustainability of postgraduate programmes: Comparative study of University of Moratuwa and University of Kelaniya

Abstract

This research evaluates of institutional cultural paradigms within the state university system in terms of its strategic value for achieving organizational objectives of survival, self-sustainability and growth of postgraduate programmes by comparing University of Moratuwa and University of Kelaniya. For the study, a random sample of 200 respondents with 100 from each university was responded. The institutional culture was measured based on the dimensions proposed by by Denison and Mishra (1995) while the effectiveness was measured based on the dimensions proposed by Cameron (1978). It was found that University of Moratuwa has more conducive institutional culture to achieve higher levels of effectiveness compared to University of Kelaniya.
