Abstract

This paper proposes a method for analysing the relationship between investment and employment generation as well as a method for forecasting employment generation for a future period based on past investment and employment data. Two classes of data streams, at micro and macro levels of the country were used to illustrate the proposed methodology. At the macro level, national level investment and employment generation data were taken into account, while at micro level investment and employment generation data of three export processing zones (EPZs) Katunayeka, Biyagama, and Koggala, were taken into account. An ed from Central Bank of Sri Lanka and Board of Investment of Sri Lanka since 1985 on investment and employment generation. The methodology proposed in this paper could be applied to any industry, sector or country.
