Abstract

This article aims to highlight what constitutes François Quesnay's modernity. Situated between the early monetary theories of the mercantilists and the dominance, since Adam Smith, of analysis in real terms, his approach combines a real foundation with an analysis of production highlighting a circulation of monetary flows. While this theory of net product linked solely to agricultural productivity quickly fell into disuse, his monetary analysis of the circulation of global flows remains surprisingly modern.
