Abstract

This book shows how design management positions itself within a governance perspective of the innovation process. How does a design-driven innovation process develop? Are there design rules and tools capable of stimulating innovation? How does design management relate to other disciplines concerned with innovation projects, such as project management, strategic design, or the metaproject approach? The book seeks to answer these questions by clarifying the boundaries and responsibilities of design management within the governance of the innovation process, and by defining the variety of project configurations aimed at creating products with different levels and types of innovation content. The wide range of instruments presented, together with the methodological approach used to analyze them, provides a practical guide for understanding and designing innovation pathways based on the methodologies and principles of design thinking.
