Abstract

This research provides a state-of-the-art review of the eco-responsibility burden placed on citizens due to the accumulation of environmental injunctions (waste sorting, soft mobility, water conservation, waste reduction, etc.). When combined, these messages may generate environmental fatigue or even eco-anxiety, particularly among less engaged individuals, leading to cognitive overload and psychological resistance. The study aims to develop an exploratory model of citizen eco-fatigue and to question the effectiveness of traditional communication strategies. It investigates the potential contributions of social and environmental psychology, as well as conversational AI tools (chatbots, gamification, nudges), to encourage pro-environmental behaviors in a non-punitive way. An experimental protocol based on gamified mobile applications rewarding "good behaviors" is proposed to model learning mechanisms for eco-citizen actions.
