Abstract

De nombreux chercheurs ont tenté de répondre à cette question. Ils mettent en avant le poids des stéréotypes et des préjugés, l'effet des congés maternité, la moindre appétence des femmes pour la négociation salariale, la plus grande préoccupation des femmes pour leur équilibre entre vie professionnelle et vie privée, etc. Forrest Briscoe et Aparna Joshi, tous deux chercheurs à l'université de Pennsylvanie (Wharton pour les intimes), ont eu l'idée de tester une tout autre hypothèse. Ils se sont demandé si les valeurs et l'opinion politique des managers avaient une influence sur ces écarts de rémunération, en particulier dans des environnements professionnels où il existe peu de critères objectifs de performance qui permettraient de limiter l'impact de la subjectivité du manager.
