Abstract

En estimant un système complet de demande de temps et de biens, cet article teste la validité de la théorie de la production domestique. L'approche tient compte de la différence entre prix virtuel du temps et taux de salaire. Les résultats révèlent que cet écart joue un rôle clé dans la détermination de l'élasticité de l'offre de travail. Ils montrent aussi les effets de substitution entre temps et biens liés aux variations des prix, du taux de salaire et du coût d'opportunité du temps : par exemple, quand le revenu augmente, les individus libèrent du temps en travaillant moins et en substituant des biens au temps dans les activités désagréables. Ces résultats éclairent les mécanismes qui engendrent la perception de la pauvreté en temps. Classification JEL : C31, J22, D12, D13.
