Abstract

En République Démocratique du Congo, le chômage des jeunes constitue une question cruciale, particulièrement en milieu urbain où les opportunités d'emploi restent restreintes. Cet article examine les stratégies mises en œuvre par les jeunes de la ville de Butembo pour gérer la période de chômage. En partant d'une enquête réalisée auprès de 60 demandeurs d'emploi enregistrés à l'ONEM/Butembo, l'article explore les pratiques mises en œuvre, les défis auxquels ils sont confrontés et les facteurs structurels du marché du travail local. Les résultats indiquent que la plupart de jeunes exercent des activités informelles ou alors suivent des formations professionnelles pour s'insérer dans l'emploi. D'autres s'insèrent dans l'entrepreneuriat individuel ou s'activent dans les réseaux sociaux. Parmi les principaux défis identifiés figurent la saturation du marché de l'emploi, l'insuffisance d'opportunités, l'inadéquation entre les formations et les exigences du marché, le népotisme ou clientélisme et l'instabilité économique. L'analyse recommande l'adoption d'une politique locale de l'emploi axée sur le soutien aux PME, la professionnalisation de la formation et le renforcement des mécanismes publics d'intermédiation.
