Abstract

Portée par des objectifs de décarbonation, d'économie circulaire et de souveraineté énergétique, la méthanisation est en plein développement. La performance financière des entités de méthanisation a encore été peu étudiée. Ces entités sont-elles rentables ? Par quels éléments du modèle d'affaires la rentabilité peut-elle être expliquée ? Pour répondre à ces questions, les données comptables d'un panel de 334 unités de méthanisation françaises ont été analysées. Les résultats montrent que ces entités sont rentables notamment grâce au soutien financier de l'État par le moyen des prix de rachat préférentiels. Cette performance financière provient également, chez les agriculteurs, de la détention de ressources stratégiques que sont les déchets agricoles et leurs terres cultivables.
