Abstract
This contribution is based on an action research project (CIGeFOR Dentelles -"Innovative consultation for sustainable forest management in the Dentelles de Montmirail", in conjunction with the National Center for Forest Property -CNPF PACA) conducted between 2024 and 2025. With a fire in August 2021 (170 ha burned, 75% private, 25% public) as the triggering event, local stakeholders organized themselves into an association (ASL Des Dentelles), initially created to remove burnt wood, clean up valleys, and grind the edges of roads and tracks (a collective project bringing together 60 owners -80 ha, 3,500 tonnes -supported by the Vaucluse county and the Sud-PACA region). This episode marked a collective awareness of the need for concerted management of the area, both for fire prevention and control issues and to address the multiple challenges that the territory represents (economic development, environment and biodiversity, quality of life, landscapes, diversity of uses: agriculture, pastoralism, forestry, hunting, recreation, etc.). Thus, based on the consultation process initiated, the general issue addressed aims to better understand how, and in what form(s), public action can support the emergence and sustainability of territorial dynamics in order to ensure sustainable and responsible development in terms of forest management.
