Abstract

L'article analyse la dollarisation dans une perspective d'économie politique. Il dresse une typologie des régimes de dollarisation en s'appuyant sur la grille de lecture institutionnaliste de la monnaie. Les ressorts des contestations monétaires à l'œuvre derrière la perte de légitimité de l'unité de compte domestique et l'érosion de la souveraineté monétaire sont mis en évidence. L'étude de la dollarisation officielle et intégrale en Équateur montre qu'elle a consolidé l'ancrage des anticipations à travers un compromis monétaire source de stabilité institutionnelle. Mais elle a aussi accentué la charge de l'ajustement et entravé la mise en œuvre d'une ambitieuse stratégie de développement alternative au consensus de Washington, empêchant ainsi la sortie d'un régime de croissance tiré par les exportations et l'extractivisme.
