Abstract

Dans cette première partie, l'auteur propose une définition de l'économie politique du genre et la distingue de l'économie féministe. Sa définition s'accorde parfaitement avec sa volonté de mener des recherches à l'intersection de la sociologie et de l'économie. Son intérêt pour la pluridisciplinarité est indispensable aujourd'hui pour mieux comprendre et combattre les inégalités de genre. Le bodybuilding n'est pas seulement une pratique sportive : c'est une véritable industrie. Cette vision renforce son idée que le sport, aujourd'hui, s'inscrit pleinement dans la logique d'accumulation du capital. Comme dans le capitalisme, il faut travailler dur, planifier son emploi du temps, être compétitif et réinvestir ce que l'on a pu gagner. Le muscle devient alors une forme de capital en soi : il donne du pouvoir aux hommes qui s'y consacrent, leur permettant non seulement de dominer d'autres hommes, mais aussi d'imposer leur supériorité sur les femmes et les homosexuels.
