Abstract

Dans son film « Les temps modernes » sorti en 1936, Charlie Chaplin dénonce les excès du capitalisme dans le monde de l'entreprise qui se caractérise alors par l'essor du taylorisme, l'organisation scientifique du travail. Sorti après la grande crise de 1929, cette œuvre s'inscrit dans un mouvement plus large de défiance du capitalisme qui verra par exemple en France l'arrivée au pouvoir du Front populaire de Léon Blum. C'est également à cette époque que naît aux États-Unis l'École des relations humaines, mouvement qui émerge en réaction au taylorisme et à ses travers (surdivision au travail, absence de sens, négation de la place de l'individu dans l'entreprise). En développant une vision humanisée et humaniste du travail, ce mouvement de pensée donne ses lettres de noblesse à la sociologie au travail en s'interrogeant sur la question suivante : quelles sont les conditions de travail les plus favorables pour améliorer la rentabilité des ouvriers ?
