L'économie au risque du réalisme. Entretien avec Pierre-Yves Gomez

While the economy holds a central place in our representations of "living together", how can we understand the inexorable invisibilisation of real work, even though it lies at the heart of the material economy? Pierre-Yves Gomez, an economist in search of interdisciplinarity and a great specialist in work and business, combines a 'realist' humanism with rare analytical rigour and a keen sense of narrative. In this interview, he helps us to decipher the anthropological narratives that are circulating today about the economy (from neoliberal utilitarianism to transhumanism). He shares with us some of the cornerstones of his wide-ranging economic thinking: 1) his 'evolutionary' approach to the historical analysis of socio-economic facts; 2) the sources and models that have helped shape his interdisciplinary outlook; 3) a sense of the complexity of the world capable of embracing the interactions between beliefs, culture(s) and economic infrastructures; 4) finally, his concern to promote a new way of looking at the economy based on the contribution of other intellectual approaches: from philosophy to literature. A fine programme for a fine meeting.
