Abstract

De nombreuses associations reposent essentiellement, voire exclusivement, sur la participation de bénévoles pour fonctionner. Les recherches récentes sur le management des bénévoles permettent de mieux comprendre les pratiques de gestion des associations, mais ne donnent que rarement à voir les moments moins formalisés passés entre bénévoles. Nous développons le concept de « coulisses du bénévolat » pour traduire les moments passés entre bénévoles, comme un repas d'après concert ou un temps de décharge émotionnelle après une maraude. Quel rôle jouent ces coulisses pour le management des bénévoles ? Grâce à une lecture ethnographique de 18 associations des secteurs de la solidarité et de la culture, nous montrons que les coulisses du bénévolat permettent de coordonner, former, créer de la cohésion et effectuer un travail émotionnel entre bénévoles. Ainsi, nous contribuons à mieux comprendre les pratiques du bénévolat et à apporter un regard complexe et plus affiné sur les épisodes inter-organisationnels (Kreutzer & Rueede, 2019) des associations.
