Abstract

This methodological article proposes to explore hypnosis as a postqualitative method for understanding the affects of the researcher within the framework of autoethnography and affective ethnography. Drawing on literatures from the affective turn, the objective of this research is to investigate the extent to which hypnosis allows for the consideration of the researcher's affects, thereby helping them to deepen their reflexivity. To this end, the researcher underwent a hypnosis session, which was audio recorded and immediately transcribed into a field journal. The article presents an exploratory analytical framework of the researcher's affects under hypnosis, combining questions, verbal responses, mental images, and physical sensations experienced in trance, in order to apprehend the potential of the method as a means of exploring affects that could add a critical dimension to future ethnographies.
