Abstract

This article examines the crucial role of producer organizations (POs) in achieving the agroecological transition (AET) goals in Martinique. Based on field survey data from vegetable farmers members of POs, the study shows how collective action through the cognitive, structural and relational dimensions can promote profitable agroecological systems. Considering the perceptions of producers to understand the role played by the POs of which they are members is an original approach and underline the advantages and drawbacks to membership in these structures. The results thus show the central role of Pos on the AET, which provide administrative and financial support to their members and encourage sharing, cohesion and cooperation within the collective, while offering a structured and regulated framework for commitment to more environmentally-friendly practices. However, some obstacles to membership have been identified, related to the operation of the PO and the prices offered.
