Abstract

Since Covid, the pineapple market seems to have entered a new era. Recurrent crises every two years, saturated markets and products sold at knock-down prices are nothing but a vague memory. While in 2022 the rude health of the markets could be attributed to a downturn in the world supply, this was not the case in 2023 and 2024. The world supply took an upturn, and indeed set new records, in spite of the increasing cultivation complexities. Between climate phenomena affecting yields, increased production costs, exchange rate movements and tougher regulatory constraints, the pineapple is no longer the fall-back crop that it used to be - its profitability is less predictable. But never mind! Volumes are on the rise again, and the market seems to be coping. While consumption is stagnant in many places, this new momentum is being driven by the vitality of the US market, where the product is reaching new heights.
