Effectiveness of financial education programs: the case of young people monitored by local missions in France

Abstract

2 Since 2002, financial education has become a priority for OECD member countries. The level of financial literacy remains low in France, which highlights the need for targeted educational programs, particularly for young people and vulnerable populations. In 2016, France launched a "national strategy for economic, budgetary and financial education" entrusted to the Banque de France, which carries out actions with young adults in difficulty, onitored by the Missions Locales. The objective of the article is to evaluate the effectiveness of this program, based on surveys carried out in 2022 and 2023. Young people who have followed several financial education programs have shown better results. The article discusses these results and proposes measures to improve the financial culture of young adults in France. Integrating financial education into a comprehensive educational strategy is crucial to maximize its effectiveness.
