Abstract

This article examines how the environment, initially referenced merely as a contextual element in legal discourse, has gradually been objectified—particularly through the example of ecological damage. It explores the relationship between this process of autonomizing the environment as a legal object, the legal and scientific tools employed for its protection, and the dynamics of commodification that may result. The article seeks to highlight the paradox whereby instruments designed to safeguard nature can, by making it measurable and quantifiable, ultimately contribute to its integration into market-based logics.
